Talk about a 180

It's amazing how quickly your life can change.

I'm not talking about my pregnancy, although I know that my life will never, ever be the same after this baby is born.

But I've got about 4 1/2 more months to plan for that.

No, I'm talking about something else.

One minute, I'm walking down the isles at Smart & Final (or as the Man calls it, Fart & Smile).

I'm already on edge trying to get a ward party put together and dealing with other various issues,

when my husband calls me from his cell phone.

Something he never does while he's at work.

Something is going on.

He got a call from Midwestern University Dental School here in Glendale, AZ.

The school that turned down his application? Yeah.

Well,

They want him.

Next year?

No.

Now.

Uh....

Seriously?

Yeah. School's already been in session a week and someone dropped out.

I'm still recovering from the shock. He's in.

HE'S IN!!!!!!!!!

No more interviews, no more biting our nails, no more crossing our fingers, no more worrying and wondering.

Ladies and gentlemen, loved ones who have cheered us on, everyone who has hoped and prayed for this moment to finally happen....

Introducing Midwestern University's newest Dental School Student and future Dr. S!

The Man. My best friend, my love, my husband!

Who also happens to be the smartest, handsomest, bestest man alive.

He quit his job that day. With about ten seconds to make a decision, he had no other choice. His manager, bless her, was VERY supportive.

I'm ashamed to say I was bummed that we aren't moving somewhere cool with lots of neat vacation spots and four lovely seasons. But every moment we get more excited.

I can't wait to go into work on Monday and tell my boss where my husband is. Because when I bade farewell to my coworkers for the weekend, the Man was a loan officer at a credit union.

Now he's a dental school student. Our lives have changed literally in the blink of an eye.

AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

I still can't believe it.

But before I take my break,

I need to wish this little girl a big, fat, happy 17th!!!

Isn't she gorgeous??? She's my baby sister who I used to think looked just like me until she turned into this MODEL. Now I think she more resembles my other sisters who also look like models. Right now, I more resemble a peach.
And today she turns 17 and is a senior at Mesa High. Holy crap.

We're going to get facials on Saturday. Wahoo!!

Love you so much, Miss Lyss!! Hope you have a great day!!

taking a little break

For the next few days, I will be taking a short vacation.
From Facebook.
And possibly the internet in general.

Because I do NOT want to stumble upon any obnoxious spoilers.

Until I am done reading this.

Nope. No spoilers. You won't find them here either.

BTW.... if anyone finds a DECENT (as in, not plastic-looking, fake, and/or totally hideous) Mockingjay pin for sale anywhere, LET ME KNOW!!! Totally want one.

See you in a few days! If it takes me that long to read this. SO EXCITED!!

So here's my question for all of you:

Peeta or Gale?

If you love Harry Potter

After the last post, which was a total downer, I thought I'd post something happy. I saw this on my bloggy friend Chessie's blog and it made me laugh out loud only cuz I'm such a huge Harry Potter fan. Click here. You won't be sorry!

Love ya, Chess, you totally rock! Even though you do have lots of time on your hands. Believe me, I do too. And I'd be doing either the same thing or something similar with my free time! WEASLEY IS OUR KING!

and happy birthday, Ginevra.

This is my infernal journal...

...so I'm going to eat some more of my caramello (they didn't have any of the regular sized ones so I had to buy a big one. ha. Sometimes, it's good to be pregnant) and rant.

what is it about my writing that is totally unemployable?

what makes my stories so unpublishable??

why am I so freaking undesirable as an author????

They say you have to keep going. Keep submitting. Play the numbers! One in 12 is a yes! Well, it's been more than twice that and so far I've had a whole lotta no's, one yes from a swindler who took about 1300.00 for a crappy editing job, and one 'yeah, we like you but we already got one.'

Some of you are probably thinking... huh, yeah, Ames, you're a real winner. Wasn't that Letters to Lizzie blog of yours that you thought was so cute and brilliant a total bust? because you QUIT?

Sigh. I know, I know. I can keep making excuses all day but the bottom line is I'm out of gas.

But I won't be pregnant forever. Am I not supposed to be an author? Are my aspirations to be another Shannon Hale or Brandon Mull or Josi Kilpack totally impossible? Sometimes I wonder. It really hurts to think that I've been wrong all this time.

I keep hearing "no, you're good!"  and "I don't know why you're not published yet, this story is amazing!"

My husband hears similar phrases about his not getting into dental school, which he is already very much qualified for.

I know I shouldn't complain. We've been so blessed this last year and with this new baby coming, I should be totally happy with my life and where it's going.

But can't I be an author too? Why not?

Wow, I can't believe I've eaten this much chocolate today.

It's a...

We're very excited! My husband guessed right.
Two of my cousins guessed right on the blog.
And two of my co-workers guessed right.
I flipped out! I totally thought it was going to be a boy even though I admit I wanted a girl.

Everything seems to be in working order. But they moved my due date! I'm now due January 17, 2011 and I'm only 16 weeks along! Ugh, no wonder I've still been feeling like a thrice-used-teabag. Also, because the baby is still so itty-bitty, I have to go back for another ultrasound just to make sure everything is okay.
I still have to scan the ultrasound pics but I'll post some later!

And I tried to upload the video I made of our California trip but it didn't work. I'm sorry, guys! I'll try again next time.

So...

What's your guess?

Boy or Girl?

I find out in about two and a half hours!!
